Economic Analysis of Pearl Millet Cultivation in Rainfed Ecosystem of Thoothukudi District, Tamil Nadu, India

The Pearl millet is the staple and nutritive diet of farm households in developing underdeveloped countries. It grown as dual-purpose; grain forage drylands, marginal lands, unirrigated lands Indian subcontinent. This study analysed cost returns, profitability, resource productivity pearl growing farmers a rainfed ecosystem Thoothukudi District. Primary data were collected selected blocks namely Vilathikulam Pudur, based on maximum area under cultivation. sampling design used was Purposive random sampling. Totally 61 personally interviewed using well-structured questionnaire. Cost-C Rs. 41115.65 per hectare. proportionate expenditure Hired Human Labour 19.05 cent to total costs. net income 4974.2 BCR higher small followed by medium large farms. partial regression coefficient hired labour fertilizers 0.103, 0.793 respectively, which positive highly significant. indicated that gross return increased increasing one expenses fertilizers. summation all coefficients 0.656 decreasing scale. When production function's returns scale decrease, average rises. Input prices have significant impact economic profitability farmers' crop Rainfed cultivation unprofitable at market values district. current scenario requires revising minimum support regulation input market, particularly for crops ecosystems.
